Size Comparison – Baby Blocks, Standard LEGO Bricks, Mini Building Blocks, Micro Bricks

In this post, I'll describe and contrast four kinds of bricks: Baby Bricks, Standard LEGO Bricks, Mini Building Blocks, and Micro Bricks.

Hello, it's time to respond to friends' questions once more. I recently discovered that Jewel Goodwin, one of our friends, is curious about the various brick sizes. Therefore, I will describe and contrast four kinds of bricks in this post: Baby Blocks, Standard LEGO Bricks, Mini Building Blocks, and Micro Bricks. After talking about their sizes, other distinctions, and the demographics they work best for, I'll present a few related brands. Let's begin!

Baby Blocks

Dimensions: Vary by brand.

Compatibility: Different brands are incompatible because of their bigger sizes and the absence of industry standards.

Suitable for: 1 – 5 years old.

Recommended Brands:

1 – Mattel – MEGA Blocks

2 – LEGO® DUPLO®

Standard LEGO bricks are not appropriate for very young children and, due to their comparatively small size, present a choking hazard.

Conversely, Baby Blocks are made especially for very young children. These blocks are safe for babies because of their larger size.

Infants' grasping and pulling abilities are weak at this age. Blocks from Baby Blocks brands are usually made to fit loosely. Children may lose interest in playing with the blocks if they are too tight since they may not have the strength to tear them apart.

As a result, the construction process is straightforward, and kids feel proud of themselves when they finish the project. Children not only like this technique, but it also fosters their interest, patience, and inventiveness.

Children can discuss and build together, or parents can join their kids while they create. In any case, it fortifies ties and produces joyful memories.

Mattel – MEGA Blocks

Mattel's MEGA Blocks are a notable substitute for LEGO in the market for large-sized Baby Blocks. These blocks are officially intended for kids ages one to three. However, since they are so secure, newborns can start playing with them as soon as they can sit up and crawl.

The sensory playset helps toddlers enjoy themselves while honing their visual and aural abilities. Oversized Mega Bloks bricks that are simple to handle, stack, sort, and create with are among the other sets appropriate for young children.

Despite not being compatible with LEGO Duplo, MEGA's huge blocks can be used with both Duplo and MEGA standard bricks.

LEGO® DUPLO®

A series of LEGO products called Duplo was created especially for young children. Toddlers 18 months and older can learn via play with LEGO® DUPLO® bricks since they are large, colourful, and manageable.

First and foremost, when it comes to products for young children, safety comes first. Furthermore, LEGO's premium materials set the industry benchmark for durability. Duplo bricks are comfortable to hold because of their size and rounded edges. They are safe to chew on yet hard to swallow due to their size.

In terms of playability, Duplo offers several possibilities. These consist of structures like barns and schools, racing automobiles, rolling trains on tracks, and colourful settings like farms, amusement parks, and building sites with miniature people and animals. In addition to offering hours of enjoyment and amusement, DUPLO® sets allow kids to develop their fine motor skills and discover the world around them.

Combining sets is a great way to expose kids to new concepts and ideas while allowing their imaginations to run wild.

Standard LEGO Building Blocks

1*1 Dimensions: 8mm x 8mm

Compatibility: 99% of a brand's components are typically compatible with LEGO bricks if the bricks are made by LEGO's standard size and design criteria.

Suitable for: 6+ years old.

Recommended Brands:

1 – LEGO

2 – Mocmodel

3 – Mould King

These bricks are likely familiar to you if you played with LEGO® as a child. Most brands use bricks of this size.

We are grateful to LEGO, the industry's big brother, for introducing us to the fantastic and happy world of bricks. Our world has improved even more due to the participation of numerous other LEGO alternative companies.

Bricks from numerous LEGO alternative manufacturers have distinctive patented designs compatible with LEGO®. Please permit me to present the Mocmodel Steampunk Marble Run 70003, our Kickstarter crowdfunding project. This product has a unique design that has never been seen on the market. Everyone has praised it and has done exceptionally well on the crowdfunding site, hitting its target in just nine hours!

Buying bricks from these companies usually enables smooth integration with LEGO bricks, increasing building possibilities and creativity.

Nevertheless, while having comparable sizes, some companies' bricks might not work well together because of variations in manufacturing accuracy, material quality, or design elements. As a result, one effective method of ensuring compatibility is to analyze customer evaluations and product descriptions.

Mini Building Block & Mirco Bricks

Mini Building Block 1*1 Dimensions: 6mm x 6mm

Micro Bricks 1*1 Dimensions: 4mm x 4mm

Compatibility:

Bricks from companies that produce micro bricks and Mini Building Blocks should work together as long as they follow industry guidelines.

Examples:

  • Mini Building Blocks of brand A and brand B are interchangeable.
  • Microbricks of the A and B brands work well together.

Nevertheless, not every Mini Building Block can be used with every Micro or Standard Brick.

Suitable for: 10+ years old.

Recommended Brand: LOZ

The sizes of Micro Bricks and Mini Building Blocks can frequently be bewildering to many novice LEGO users. But now that you've seen the examples I gave before, it ought to be quite obvious. Easy.

I'll go into depth about a few minor variances and size variations.

  1. Difficulty Level: The difficulty increases with decreasing size, which is quite simple to comprehend. Finding and differentiating bricks during the early construction is a skilful task that calls for focus. Finding and distinguishing the bricks becomes increasingly difficult as their size decreases. Due to their small size, they are also more challenging to grasp and connect, necessitating more extraordinary patience and dexterity to finish each step.
  2. Variety: There are fewer designs for smaller sizes. Most companies that make standard LEGO-sized bricks can construct a fantastic set by following LEGO's models because LEGO has already set the standard. But it wasn't until the 2000s when Micro Bricks and Mini Building Blocks became popular. Only a few firms were developing and investigating because no giant like LEGO could supply the right solutions. As a result, fewer businesses produce these sizes, leading to fewer designs.
  3. Stability: These bricks are not very stable because of their low size. While standard-sized bricks provide greater solidity and load-bearing capability, making them less likely to break, extra caution is required while creating models.
  4. Quality: Do they have the same quality as LEGO? No. It could be challenging to join bricks if you find ones that are too tight or a little loose. However, everything comes together as it should, and the cost-performance ratio is nearly unbeatable.
  5. Space Efficiency: Even after looking at photographs, it isn't easy to fathom how tiny and delicate these sets will be when finished! Although they take up less room than a single LEGO set, four or more sets can easily fit on a small table. There are many nooks and crannies to hide these sets, even in a small living area.
  6. Price: Because less raw material is utilized due to their lower size, they are comparatively less expensive than the larger blocks.

I suppose many of you adore LEGO sets, but the rising costs and the size of the finished creations put off many of you. If you share that sentiment, microbricks and Mini Building Blocks could be a tempting substitute. Furthermore, these bricks nearly exactly resemble LEGO in appearance and feel, fulfilling our desire to construct anything with bricks without having to buy full-sized LEGO kits.

After reading this article, you should better understand the world of building blocks. It's your time now. I would love to know what you think. How do you feel about the various construction block sizes? Have you experimented with different sizes? Or would you like to learn more details? Please feel free to comment!
